🚢 Canvasser

Canvasser Guide

Everything you need to go door-to-door β€” finding addresses, recording visits, logging residents, and tracking your progress.

🏠 Home Screen

The home screen is your starting point. It shows addresses near your current GPS location, lets you search for any address, and displays an active route footer when you have a route in progress.

πŸ“
Nearby Addresses
Uses your GPS to show the nearest canvassable addresses ranked by distance. The list refreshes as you move. Each card shows the address, last visit outcome (coloured chip), last visit date, and a resident summary.
πŸ”
Address Search
Type a street name or postcode to find any address. Results appear as you type β€” tap to open the household.
🏘️
Resident Summary
Each address card shows a row per known resident with gender icon, age bracket, party colour, support level, and issue tags β€” so you know who lives there before you knock.
πŸ“œ
Policy Favourites
Articles you've starred in the Policy tab appear as quick-access cards at the top of the home screen β€” ideal for doorstep reference.

Active Route Footer

When you have an active (in-progress) route or area, a persistent footer bar appears at the bottom of the home, household, and resident screens.

●
Collapsed bar

Shows a status beacon (🟒 green = active, ⚫ grey = paused), the route name, and an Active/Paused chip. Tap or drag up to expand.

●
Expanded view

Drag the bar upward to expand. Shows the route map, and if you have multiple active routes a selector list lets you switch between them. The type badge (Route/Area) and β„Ή Info button appear in the header.

●
Resize the map

Continue dragging the header bar up to make the map taller, or drag it down 60 px to collapse back to the slim bar.

●
Info panel

Tap β„Ή Info to open a details sheet showing Status, Start date, Duration, and your Notes. Pause, Resume, and Complete buttons are also here. Tapping Complete asks for confirmation before marking the route done.

ℹ️ The route footer is hidden when you navigate to the Routes, Activity, Policy, Badges, or Profile tabs β€” it reappears when you return to home or open a household.

🏑 Visiting Households

Tap any address card to open the household screen, which shows all previous visits, residents on file, and lets you record a new visit.

Recording a Visit

Tap Record Visit then choose an outcome:

βœ“ Spoke to resident πŸ”” No answer ⏰ Not available βœ• Refused β›” Do not visit πŸ“¦ Moved away 🚧 Inaccessible β€’ Other
1
Select an outcome

Spoke to resident is the main success outcome. All outcomes are logged with a timestamp and your name.

2
Tick literature left (optional)

If your branch has literature items configured, tick which you left at the door. This feeds into the branch manager's visit reports.

3
Add notes (optional)

Free-text field for access issues, intercom codes, or anything the branch should know about this address.

4
Tap "Record Visit"

Saved immediately. The household refreshes to show the new entry at the top of the visit history.

πŸ’‘ Do Not Visit permanently flags the address. All future canvassers will see a clear warning before they knock.

πŸ‘€ Recording Residents

Capturing resident data is the most valuable thing a canvasser does. Record party support, the issues people care about, and contact details if they want to get involved.

1
Tap "+ Add Resident" on the household screen

To edit someone already on file, tap the Edit button on their resident card β€” the form pre-fills with their existing data.

2
Basic details

First name, last name, age bracket, and gender. All fields are optional β€” even a first name alone is useful.

3
Party support

Select one or more parties. For each, choose a support level β€” Activist, Strong, Leaning, Undecided, Unlikely, or Against β€” and optionally pick reason tags that explain their stance (e.g. "NHS Funding", "Cost of Living").

4
Local issue tags

Tap issues the resident mentioned. These are configured by your branch manager and reflect concerns specific to your area. You can search within the tag grid.

5
Mark as supporter (optional)

Toggle Mark as Supporter to reveal contact fields β€” first name, last name, email, and mobile. This adds the resident to the branch supporters list.

6
Suggest a new tag (optional)

If an issue comes up that isn't listed, tap Suggest Tag. Name it, optionally link it to a party, and set the sentiment. Your suggestion goes to the branch manager for approval.

⚠️ Deleting a resident is permanent and cannot be undone. Confirm carefully when prompted.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Routes & Areas

Your branch manager creates routes and areas to coordinate canvassing. The Routes tab shows routes available to take plus any you already have in progress.

πŸ›€οΈ
Routes
A planned walking sequence drawn on a map. Tap waypoints directly on the map to jump to that household.
🟣
Areas
A polygon boundary defining a zone. Canvass freely within it rather than following a fixed path.

What You See in the Routes Tab

The Routes tab only shows cards that are relevant to you:

Available β€” ready to take Your in-progress routes Your paused routes Your completed routes (24 h)

Routes in progress or assigned to other canvassers are hidden from your list. Completed routes you finished remain visible for 24 hours with an Undo option.

Starting a Route

1
Take an available route

Tap Take This Route on any available card. It becomes assigned to you so nobody else takes it at the same time.

2
Start

Tap Start Route. The route footer bar appears at the bottom of the home screen β€” tap or drag it up to expand the map.

3
Canvass

Work through the area or waypoints at your own pace. The footer bar stays visible while you move between screens.

Managing an Active Route via the Footer

While a route is active, all route controls are in the footer popup β€” expand it and tap β„Ή Info to open the details sheet.

⏸
Pause
Suspends the route β€” the beacon turns grey. The footer remains visible. Tap β–Ά Resume in the Info sheet when you're ready to continue.
βœ…
Complete
Marks the route done. A confirmation prompt appears first. Once confirmed, the route card shows an ↩ Undo Complete button for 24 hours in case of mistakes.
↩
Undo Complete
Reverts a recently completed route back to in-progress. Available for 24 hours after completion β€” useful if you tapped Complete by mistake.
πŸ”€
Multiple Active Routes
If you have more than one in-progress route, a selector list appears at the top of the expanded footer so you can switch between them.

Route Statuses

Available β€” ready to take Assigned β€” taken, not yet started In Progress β€” actively being canvassed Paused β€” temporarily suspended Completed β€” done
πŸ’‘ The route footer is only visible on the home, household, and resident screens. It hides automatically when you switch to Routes, Activity, Policy, Badges, or Profile.

πŸ“‹ Activity

The Activity tab is a personal log of your most recent visits β€” address, outcome, and time. Tap any entry to jump back to that household.

ℹ️ Activity shows your last 50 visits. Your full history is available to branch managers and admins via the Visit History report.

πŸ† Badges & Leaderboard

The Badges tab rewards your canvassing contributions with visual achievements, and shows how you rank against other canvassers in your branch and nationally.

Branch Leaderboard

A podium showing the top three canvassers in your branch by visit count over the last 60 days, with a full ranked list below. Your position is highlighted in amber even if you're outside the top three. If you're holding first, second, or third place, a gold, silver, or bronze trophy appears on your home screen.

National Leaderboard

Branch totals ranked nationally β€” shows how your branch compares to all others on the platform over the same 60-day window.
